Very economical for the beginning chaser
By Mike Long (ardmore/carter co. ok. skywarn assoc.) on 10/23/2001 from Ardmore, Ok
Our storm spotter group which consists of 25 members use the Kestrel 1000 and enjoy it very much. The only down fall is that you need to have the display facing into the wind to get and accurate reading. If display is in opposite direction you get a wind reading 3 to 5 mph off.

Mobile Threat Net / XM Satellite Weather
By Cliff Windham, Regional Manager for Baron Services on 1/11/2007 from Huntsville, AL
I’m Cliff Windham, the Regional Manager over Mobile Threat Net (MTN) at Baron Services, where I helped develop this terrific weather monitoring and storm tracking technology. Mike Masse is no longer directly involved with our company, but still keeps in touch. So, you may now contact me about any questions you have about MTN at 256-881-8811 or cwindham@baronservices.com. Our website is www.mobilethreatnet.com. I also use MTN constantly at work and when traveling and can’t stand to be without it, especially during threatening weather. I think our many customers involved in public safety, motoring, and storm chasing would agree that there’s nothing else like it on the market. I have customer testimonials, and complete details on MTN that I will be happy to e-mail to you. Otherwise, you can call me at the number above. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for considering Mobile Threat Net. Regards, Cliff

Vantage Pro
Davis

The ultimate weather station from Davis. Has large backlighted display with a wealth of weather information and has added features such as graphing of any variable for up to 24 years! Screen crawl on bottom displays information as well as 24 - 48 hour forecast. Comes with everything you need to get started. Standard on the Integrated Sensor Suite(ISS) are Temp/Humidity Sensor, Rain collector, and Anemometer. Optional sensors for UV, Radiation, Leaf Wetnes, & Soil Moisture. Available wireless and Cabled. I prefer cabled version since the wireless version runs around 913 Mhz which can be interfered with by cordless phones sometimes. Other than that 1 quirk, installation of my cabled version was effortless and quick! Definately worth a trip to www.davisnet.com today!

Awesome
By George LaForce on 3/31/2003 from Yoder, CO USA
I have been using the wireless version since it was on the market and I have had no problems at all!! The station is acurate and reliable. The folks at Davis have out done them selves.

Couldn't be happier.
By Lou Giliberto on 11/25/2003 from Duvall, WA
Have had this product for about a year and it's worked flawlessly. I bought a second VantagePro station and the WeatherLink software so I can log the weather to my computer -- I haven't set that up yet, so I can't comment on the WeatherLink. I've compared the readings with the nearest readings from local schools with stations, and it's always right on. The graphs are great for watching trends, and it stores a ton of data in the station. I had a problem setting up the receiver (display) when I first got it, called Davis tech support, and they walked me right through it. If you want your own weather station, I highly recommend this product.

Poor Support of veterans
By Anonymous on 1/8/2007 from Raeford N.C.
Davis Industries President was contacted about donatong a system to a project for the Vererans returning from Iraq involving a base radio station where the Veterans recovering from Combat operations were going to set up a radio / weather station for use on the base. The plan was for them to occupy there free time and get their minds on other things. The President of Davis Industries flat out said he never says yes to any donations no matter who or what for.Boyocot them.

A good package with some minor flaws
By Tim Vasquez on 2/7/2001 from Norman, OK
The Davis Wizard III and Monitor II, which are basically variations on the same product, offer a good bargain for accuracy and quality. The weather station display shows wind along with any selectable parameter, including the time/date/value of a high or low for any parameter (wind speed, temperature, etc). The design and implementation is excellent. The instruments get good marks for using convenient telephone-cord type connectors rather than hardwiring, however an off-the-shelf PAX telephone cable I used between the splitter and main unit did not work. The optional WeatherLink ("PCLink") package is a 16-bit Windows 3.1 application which under Windows 95 is "thunked" by the system and becomes somewhat of a resource hog. Davis Instruments loses points for not upgrading this to a 32-bit application, and for providing awkward ergonomics and customization in this program. The weather station itself, however, is a great deal and I have had no other problems. No regrets yet.

great data collector
By cynthia doke on 4/24/2002 from laporte, mn
I bought the weather monitor II with the link to connect to my pc. I am very happy with it. During times of severe weather I can set it to record data every minute. Last week I was able to catch what appeared to be a downburst at the tail of the storm. I hope to upgrade to the advantage pro in the future.

Dependable, accurate and great price
By Stan Broadway on 10/6/2003 from Central Ohio
These units are often available at discount for half the MSRP. I installed one in my truck and after a number of events it has proven strong and reliable in a mobile application. I purchased a second unit for my home. The only negative I'd offer is that it's very hard to read the screen, obviously at night but also in a normally-lit room. For the mobile, I wired in a small "dash mood lamp" with a switch. Back-lighting would be great. I'd recommend these units.

WMR 968
Oregon Scientific

Purchased and installed a new Oregon Scientific WRM 968 wireless weather station and had it up and running in a very short time. The wind, rain and outdoor temp/humidity sensors are a little cumbersome due to the small phillips head screws that need to be removed and installed after batteries are installed. Also the reset buttons for the sensors are inside the weatherproof housing. Getting accurate readings from all sensors and the base station is very convenient. Battery operated and AC adapter is included. Nice touch screen display that lights with a soft touch. Memory function keeps track of previous information from sensors. Have two additional temp sensors installed, one in garage and another in my outbuilding. They conveniently provide me remote temp's and help to monitor the inside temp's of these buildings. Did not want to spend a fortune and fit my budget and weather needs.

I will be first to sign up for 2001!
By Roger Hill on 2/7/2001 from Colorado
When I found out Tim was opening the Storm Chaser Hotline, I quickly signed up. It did not take long for it to pay off!!! Tim's expert skills helped me to the Ft Worth tornado in March, on a day that was a difficult one to forecast. Next in line was the Caddo county, Oklahoma cyclic tornadic supercell on May 26 that was an awesome sight. Thanks to Tim for getting me there!!! In June, my son and I took a chase vacation to the northern plains, and The Storm Chaser Hotline was there too, even though my data connections for my cell phone weren't!!! On June 11, multiple severe storms fired in North Dakota, and Tim's expertise helped me to catch tornado #27 for the year near Washburn, North Dakota. I can't wait for 2001 and will be first to sign up for another season!!!

way over priced, not for storm chasers, better off getting a cheaper lightning detector or just go to a lightning detection site on the internet. if you are willing to spend that much for a lightning detector then check out the boltek lightning detector you can secure the sensor on top of your vehicle and then plug the unit into your laptop and plot the strikes over a map. DETECTS UP TO 300 MILES AWAY!!! try boltek.com or lightningstorm.com

Using the Thunderbolt on a camping trip recently, we were able to track the storm from 71 miles away. It showed us the ETA, where lightning was striking and how far away, it showed us everything we needed to know to break camp and head away quickly. It gave us the needed time to make an intelligent decision. The friends we had on the trip have now purchased one for themselves. Thanks Spectrum you saved our bacon.
